Tomorrow..... 9/11....

I remember exactly what i was doing. I had caught the mono bug and after being hospitalized was being "babysat" by my grandma. I was a junior in high school. I remember watching the tv and being so confused. It showed over and over planes hitting a building. I said grandma look at this. She said "hmm that is some show you are watching". The phone rang. It was my cousin that lived in New York. She was calling to tell my grandma that she was fine and made it home from work safe, but her husband was stuck in the subway. My grandma's face went white and she just stared at the tv.

COULD THIS REALLY BE HAPPENING?

I don't even know what to say. All these people went to work like any other day, and some never came home. Or called their loved ones to say goodbye. I can't fatham that.

I ran across a blog (Thrifty Decor Chick) that tells a story about 9/11 and also shows lots of pictures from the dedication building that has lots of memorbilia about this day. Heartbreaking. The stories, pictures, clothes, all heartbreaking.

My heart goes out to those who remember today (sept 10) as the last day they talked, held, kissed, hugged, played with their loved ones.

My Sister in Law, Caprice, good friend Dan Shurtz's fiance' Sarah Hays was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer clear cell adeno-carcinoma 2 months ago she is 29 years old. In an effort to help raise money for her extensive medical treatments her family and friends are putting a 5k race sweatin for sarah it will be held next saturday August 28th. I need to start by apologizing. A lot of this has been happening at our house and we are still in boxes since in 6 months we will be yet moving again. So an apology is well overdue. boo on my part. But lets start fresh and why not with some decoratve paint jobs!!!

One thing is for sure, if i don't like something i throw some paint on it before i chuck it or take it to the DI. A different color can sometimes bring life back so a decoration that is slightly outdated.
Check out this white pillow, they added a decorative tree, and look how much life is there.
i love it.

My kids would love this. and what a project to do on a rainy or snowy day. Grab some dishes from the DI or walmart and paint different characters on them. So cute and creative.

Ok OUtdoors theme isn't my favorite, and this reminds me too much of stamping which scares me away... BUT like my mother there are a lot of people that would love this idea. Two in one method: Painting & Wallpaper. Very creative.

Are you short on the moola, but hating your drab wooden floor?

PAINT IT!!! I love this so country.

I picture this in a little girls room and love this. So perfect and unique.

So while we are in a rental and my painting itch maybe slightly restricted I will continue to dream of all these neat ideas to liven up a room, or sad decoration that needs it just dollars.

Is there a perfect time?

I have been doing a lot of trade lately. Mostly with photographers (whom i adore, you know who you are), and a couple of friends. While i was researching for some material to make a custom order veil i ran across this blog.

She wrote a lot of things that caught my eye. And the Pictures did to. What a story.
Which brings me to my topic.
Is there a Perfect Time in our day to day lives that everything works out to where you feel like you can get a Perfect Family Picture?

Realistically... Probly not.

But does it have to be a family picture?? So why don't we take the time and document these days that fly by so fast? Document the growth in our children? Even the silly things.

That is it.... My new goal. I am making the effort, getting my scrapbooking caught up, taking more pictures, making appointments to get pictures professionally done. Recording our life.

And guess what I know someone who can and will help!!! Chicken And Artichoke Cacciatore

Alright, I know, I have been neglecting this blog a little! So, I decided today that I would post the most wonderful dinner recipe you will EVER make. I promise. You know those meals that are so good, that you groan after every bite? lol. Well, here you go....

Chicken And Artichoke Cacciatore

4 chicken breast halves, boneless and skinless
four seasoned with salt and pepper for dredging
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 (6 oz) jar marinated artichoke hearts, undrained
1 (16 oz) can crushed tomatoes
2 garlic cloves, minced (or I always crush mine)
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon pepper
8 ounces sliced fresh mushrooms
1/4 cup sherry, optional ( you want to use it, trust me!!)

** A pan that goes from cook top to oven makes this dish a lot easier, I highly recommend it!**

In a large dutch oven, heat olive oil. Dredge chicken in seasoned flour and brown over medium-high heat. Add artichoke hearts, crushed tomatoes, garlic, herbs, pepper, and mushrooms. Stir then remove from heat. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Pour sherry over top and bake an additional 10 minutes. Serve over pasta.

Daylon

I want to introduce you to Daylon. Daylon was born with Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa Herlitz and was given less than 1 year to live.

The only hope for this sweet little baby is a clinical trial currently taking place at the University of Minnesota. Through a combination of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, doctors there hope they can save Daylon’s life. Daylon will be the first patient with Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa (JEB) in the world to receive this treatment! He will make medical history.

However, this treatment is expensive. Daylon's family cannot afford the treatment to save Daylon on their own.
Serving Pink Lemonade is holding a silent auction for Daylon. Jessica and I both pitched in and donated items that we have made for their auction. The auction will take place April 27th through the 29th. Check it out. Make a difference in this little guys life.

Garage Sale Save

A couple of weeks ago i found this at a garage sale. I thought it would be so cute full of diapers and Riley's stuff that is spread around his room. It would help me do some organizing!! BUT, it was in pretty bad shape. Thankfully though

the baskets are in great shape. I paid $5.00 for it.

I sprayed a white primer.

Then sprayed it with powder blue krylon spray.

I used the faux finish by ralph lauren. (of course... i am addicted)

And just look at it. isn't it cute!!!!

Coat Makeover...

Today at the lovely DI, I walked past this lovely thing... and she started calling my name. I bought her for 5 dollars and brought her home. I took apart the lining from the coat.

Messed with it a little and look what came out of it.....
So i got about a yard of the black and white checks and about 3/4 a yard of the lining for five dollars. Can't really beat that I think.

The rosette is made from the lining and the flare to the left is the coat.

(Love my model? yes it is my son. Gotta do what you gotta do right?)

Is that not so adorable. Thank you to the lady that gave that coat away...

White Chicken Chile

1 lb chicken, cubed
1 medium onion, chopped (I use about half an onion)
2 cloves garlic, pressed
1 tbsp canola oil
2 cans northern beans, drained
2 chicken bullion cubes dissolved in 1 cup hot water
1 can green enchilada sauce
4 oz canned chopped green chiles
1 tsp salt
3/4 tsp cumin
1 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp pepper
1 cup sour cream
1/2 whipping cream (or half and half or milk)
Cheddar cheese and crushed tortilla chips

In a pot, saute onion, chicken, and garlic with oil. Add beans and broth (bullion cubes and water), sauce, chiles, and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes. (Otherwise the cream will curdle) Stir in sour cream and whipping cream. Top with cheddar cheese and crushed tortilla chips.

You will thank me later.

April Fools Day Ideas

Now...well, that's just mean.

Place a rubber band around the sprayer at the kitchen sink when no one is looking....

Unscrew the filter/cap off your bathroom sink and place one of the crayola color dropz inside. Then place the cap back on! What a colorful surprise!

Set the alarm for an hour early. Your spouse will be so confused! Tee Hee...

Bunny Bean Bag

First i got some burlap and my popcorn bowl I put it face down and traced it.

Got some pink felt and drew me some bunny ears.

Placed them on the burlap where i wanted them

Then sewed them on using a zigzag stitch. Only on the top layer though.

Then using a double zigzag stitch i sewed around the circle leaving around a 1/4 of an inch the entire way around.

Leave an opening so you can fill the bag. Mine was about an inch wide but and inch and a half might have been easier.

Now time to fill. I used rice that i got at the dollar store. But you could use beans or anything you wanted.

Sew her up!!

I grabbed two black beads and sewed them on for eyes.

And a little pom pom for the nose. I can't wait to slip her into my boys easter basket. Even though i used burlap you could use anything you wanted really. White felt would be cute or a decorative fabric. Go crazy with her. You kids will love seeing this in their basket.

Picture Writing

OK i bought these pictures for my dad for his birthday!! It spells out thier last name. Got it framed and wahla birthday present. I thought this would be such a special gift because each of the letters photographed are from the Salt Lake Temple!! Cool huh.

Then my mind took off, what if this what if that. and I came up with the thought of.... What if i went to an old tractor yard, or a car dump, and took picture of letters that spelled out my boys names and got them printed and put them up in their room??? How adorable would that be? Maybe that will be a later post :)

I wanted to experiment to see how hard it really is to come up with picures that could spell out my name. Just using stuff around the house. and this is what i came up with!! Not bad huh!

When the snow melts I am off to a junk yard.

Easter Wreath

My front porch needed some easter decor horribly. SO after seeing this on The Crafty Sisters I knew i had to make one!! Here is how i made mine

First find you a wreath. Look at this beaut i found at the DI for $2.00. SWEET.

Then i went to the Dollarstore and bought eggs and spanish moss. ($2.00)

Came home and broke the eggs in half.

Sprayed them with White Flat Rustoleum spray paint. I figured using Flat spray paint would work as well as a primer, besides that is all i had. And it did really well.Let dry. Then on to the wreath. Wow is Spanish Moss a mess!!! I used hot glue... again all i had, but i was thinking that the spray adhesive used for quilting would be fabulous. Mental note to self. I caked mine on. I wanted a nest like feeling.I did another coat on the eggs with this. Then i got two bowls and put a tiny amount of water in them. Squirted a dob of paint in both. And then went to town flicking the brush to make spots of paint on the eggs. Really the fun part.Then once they were dry glued them to the wreath.

Added the Burlap bow and look how cute it is!! I put her up on my ladder on my porch. I am so in love. How easy was that and ooooh so cheap. $4.00. Make one they are fun!!

Found this beauty at the local antique store. $10.00 later it came home with me. Painted it with Folk Art's Sky Blue.

Added Ralph Lauren's Tobacco Glaze. Put the hardware back on.

I grabbed some fabric, but wanted it to look old. So i got it a little bit wet and crinkled it. Grabbed the Modge Podge.Put a even amount on the glass. I didn't worry to much about the wrinkles. and......

WAHLA...This is going to add the perfect flair on my living room wall.

Hot Dr. Pepper for your Common Cold

Have you ever heard that a hot Dr. Pepper helps treat a cold? I never have until now, and to be honest, I just might be trying this out in the next couple days. Stuffy nose, check. Sore throat, check. Maybe its just spring fever....check?

Grab your favorite mug and fill it with Dr Pepper. Microwave until hot. Now, grab a lemon and squeeze some juice into your drink, followed by a slice or wedge of the lemon. The picture above shows an orange, so whatever you prefer. It will be fizzy, hot, and sweet. And supposedly, it works wonders.

Feeling Blue

In lue of this not so fun, snowy, freezing weather i have been in need of a change. Not really me but my living room. I have been very distressed about what color i would change in it. I love my barn red, mustards, and olive green... but i want bright and vocal and cheery if you will.

So when i was in the local Roberts, i saw these perfect cloth napkins and decided then and there that i would change my colors to.... blue!! I picked out some coordinating paint and off i went not really knowing what i would use the paint on.

Sitting on my counter was this. dark and dreary not having a place in my house really. But man a killer deal. i got this at WALMART??? for $2.00. It is roughed up a little on the bottom. I took one look at it and knew she had to be blue.

So i did it. (see the damage on the bottom) And love it. I then used the lovely Tobacco Ralph Lauren glaze, and

Wala... I love it. But i can't just have one thing blue in my living room. And i don't want to go out in the blizzard to bad. So i just went to town painting stuff.

This frame used to be RED. Oh how i love this. Again paint with the Tobacco on top.

And just a random twig ball.

Love the change. It's like spring in my house. If only it was outside too.

Chicken Pot Pie (using your cast iron skillet)

I came across this recipe in my Country Living magazine. It is one of those delicious meals that warms you up on a cold day. Perfect comfort food. Number one in comfort food, I'd say. Now, this recipe uses a 12" cast iron skillet. If you dont own a cast iron skillet, (or cast iron anything), shame on you! Just kidding, but seriously, you must buy one. Like, right now. I use mine everyday, in fact, it never leaves my stove top...

Cast Iron Chicken Pot Pie

2 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, chopped
4 medium carrots, sliced into 1/4 inch thick coins
2 ribs celery, sliced
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped ( I just use my press)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons flour
3 tablespoons heavy cream
2 cups chicken broth
4 cups shredded cooked chicken
1 cup frozen peas
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh dill (I just gave a sprinkle of my dry dill)
1 (9 inch) store bought pie crust, such as Pillsbury (If frozen, thaw)
1 egg, beaten

1. Preheat oven to 400° F. Heat butter in a 12-inch cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add onion, carrots, celery, and garlic and cook until carrots begin to soften (about 6 minutes). Season with salt and pepper.

2. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir in flour. Cook for 1 minute. Stir in heavy cream and broth, using a whisk, until combined. Stir in chicken, peas, and dill and bring to a boil. remove from heat.

3.Gently roll out pie crust until it reaches 12 inches in diameter. Place dough atop chicken mixture and brush with egg; cut vents in pastry. Transfer skillet to oven; bake until crust is browned and flaky, about 35 minutes.

Baby Announcement

Do you ever get overwhelmed when you have to have announcments? On the internet there are millions to chose from and that makes hard to decide. So sometimes you just need to go with the idea in your head and more than not you will be surprised with what you end up with. I know i was. But that just made it more special.

These are the baby announcements for my little guy. I got me some great photography.

Cut out these rockets. Of your normal Bazzil Cardstock Paper.

I found these square chipboard pieces at the local Roberts,

covered them with paper and printed his stats.

The buttons were a little tricky. I couldn't find any that i loved, but i found some clear onefrom Stampin Up . I used the same trick that i used on the carseat canopy, and I am in love with how they came out.

For me handmaking these has made it more special. I can put one in his book and remember, that by some miracle i pulled this together and it turned out so cute.

Sewing Machine Cover

I have seen a lot of these sewing machine covers circulating the internet craft world. So today I decided to make one for myself, and, for my great birthday present- a new sewing machine!

So all you need to do is measure your machine. I chose not to have closed ends on my cover. With my machine out 90% of the time, I just wanted something to cover all the buttons and needle. Ive got sticky toddler hands around here. Anyway, I measured from one side to the other. Then I measured the length. My measurements were 14.5 X 26.5 (that is with my inseam already calculated in) I added about an inch on all sides.

With a hot iron with a lot of steam, make a hem on all sides. Oh yea, I'm using a heavyweight home decor fabric. You could also use a cotton, but maybe add some interfacing for some stiffness.

Now, after I made my hem, I draped my cover back over my machine. I then measured were I wanted my ribbon ties to be. I believe mine was 4.25 from the bottom. I marked both sides with horizontal pins.

All you do now is stitch all around the cover and sewing in your ribbon ties when you come to your pins. I was lazy when it came to the ribbon! But pinning into place to begin with would have been faster.

And your done!

Rossette Rings.

OK so i found this really neat idea Here, Linda @ Craftaholics Anonymous, thought of this great idea to teach some girls in her church the skill of sewing a button. Then they made a ring out of it!!! So cute. So the wheels in my head started a churning and i thought how cute would a Rosette Ring be?? I would totally wear it.

There are many ways to make a rosette. You just have to find one that you like. Here is a tutorial of one type... But there are thousands.

Here she is. I love her. I think she is so cute and adds just a little of punch to an outfit.

What do you think? I think i will make a red, brown, white, and black one. Just so i can coordinate with some more outfits. :)

Perfect New baby package.

Since a new addition is coming to our family in a week, i wanted to make him something

"just from mom" and i love this line found at http://www.rileyblakedesigns.com/.

And came out with this adorable rag quilt that we can take him home in. But then as i was looking at all the fabric left over i thought how cute would it be to have a coordinating Car seat Canopy.

So i whipped one up with a couple of accents to make it my own.

First i added these stars. I love raw edges. They make it feel more boyish to me. I looked through my stash of buttons. Being that i didn't want to spend any more money than i had already done on the fabric, and what do you know i couldn't find ONE that i liked. But i did find these two clear ones.
I had some extra fabric that coordinated with the line, used my favorite Modge Podge and adhered them to the back of the button and sewed them on.
Then it came to finding some way to attach it to the car seat. I had no Velcro.... crap. I had some extra fabric that i love and made a sleeve. Then i threaded grosgrain ribbon through.

After threading the ribbon through i measured it out to the perfect length

for the bows, and sewed them on to the canopy.

I am so excited for this little combo, that whipped up quite nicely. I spent about $30.oo on fabric and tried to use everything else that i already had on hand. LOve iT!!!

Free Printable Lens Hood

My Anna Marie Horner Scarf

I discovered Anna Marie Horner's 'square dance' fabric not too long ago, and every time I go into my favorite fabric store, I stare at it. At $14 dollars a yard, I usually end up biting my lip and walking away. After seeing her website, and the scarf she made here, I realized that it wouldnt cost too much to make. And if you know me, you know I love scarves!

Isnt her fabric so pretty?! This fabric is light weight with an all over 'dobby' feel to it. It feels almost like silk!

I had it cut so that it was about 14" wide, which was one long strip of 4 blocks (make sense?). I believe the fabric is 56" long. I had her matching green/aqua stripe cut the same width.

I pinned the fabrics right side together. I then trimmed it up a bit.

For the thread I used a gray and for the bobbin I used bright green.

I used a 1/4" seam, I just made sure that my seam didnt cut off any of the floral blocks. When finished, turned right side out and iron. Then top stitch around scarf.

It turned out lovely! I am so excited about it. I think it could also use a dual purpose around here at my house...if you lay it flat you could use it for a runner. Just an idea...

This scarf cost me $10.56 and took about 45 minutes from start to finish. Perfect project for nap time!

Chocolate Dipped Shortbread

1 1/2 cups butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 pkg semi sweet chocolate chips
1 Tbsp shortening
finely chopped nuts, optional (I use almonds)

In a large bowl combine butter, sugar and vanilla; beat till creamy. Blend in flour and salt. Shape dough into 1" balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheets and flatten with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar. Bake 8-10 minutes at 350. Remove from cookie sheet and cool. Melt chocolate chips and shortening in the microwave for one minute at a time on about 30-40% power level until melted. Dip each cookie halfway into melted chocolate. Place on cookie sheets lined with wax paper. Sprinkle with chopped nuts if desired. Chill in refrigerator. Keep refrigerated.

Custom Earring Holder

I found this vintage looking mirror at the DI for $5. It was that really tacky brass color. It was covered with spider webs. But I looked past that and bought it anyway. I was planning on just painting it and keeping it as mirror in our bedroom. Then I saw this idea

I chose semi-gloss black spray paint to do the job...

and gave it a good coat. I had some square chicken wire laying around and I got to thinkin'. Once the paint was dry I then cut my wire to fit around the back on the frame. I hot glued the wire to the back.

and waa-la! My very own custom earring holder. Perfect for my closet! The idea (link) above, she uses a screen. With the screen you would be able to put all your studs up as well. My chicken wire is a little to big for that!

You could also do this for babies hair bows...

And yes......

Ive painted our bedroom!

With this being my inspiration for our bedroom redo. We'll see how this goes...

Neighbor gift idea.

This cute idea came from my mother in law who recieved this as a gift. So simple and so cheap. First buy a glass candle stick holder. Dollar Tree has them and only a dollar people.
Then buy a decorative plate. This one is from Pier One, but you can always find them at TJ Maxx or Ross. Use Bead and Glass Epoxy, that can be bought from any craft store. Or i am sure you can buy it from Home Depot or Lowes.

Glue together and let sit overnight.

Pile high with homemade goodies, cookies, popcorn, fudge, dipped pretzels, ect.

And deliver. I think this is so cute and super easy.

This one only cost $6.00. Any neighbor would love to recieve this.

Chair Re-vamp

Re-posting this to enter my project in to the Shanty to Chic Rust-oleum Revamp Giveaway! If you have completed a project using any Rust-oleum products make sure to enter!

I found this chair at my local DI for $5. However, I wasn't crazy about the fabric on the chair (or the dust and stains) and all the scratches on the chair itself. But for $5, I knew with a little paint and some new fabric, it could be great.

I took the cushion off and prepped the chair for painting. It needed to be lightly sanded in some areas and cleaned.

For this chair I painted it with Rust-o-leum (painters touch-its the best) in 'heirloom white'. It is the perfect antique white color.

Let it dry for a few hours. Then the fun part...

Then glaze. I used Ralph Lauren faux technique glaze in 'tobacco'. Sorry, I didn't take any photos of this step, but all you do is paint on (in sections) and wipe away with a rag. Remember paint then wipe away. It gives it this great aged look. The glaze gets into the little nooks and gives everything dimension. I love this stuff!

Using a staple gun and about 1/4 yard of fabric I re-upholstered the seat. I found this great fabric at Urban Renewal in St. George. I paid 5 bucks for half a yard. Notice how the glaze looks?

And your done! This chair cost me around $14 dollars and it looks faboulus in my room! This chair is the inspiration for our bedroom redo. Any ideas on a great wall color??

Sesame Street/Elmo Birthday Party

The Table- I purchased cheap plastic tablecloths from the dollar store. Two white and one red. I cut the red to fit down the center. Confetti stars down the middle with paper products also from the dollar store.

I placed a blower on each of the kids' plates.

Game- Pin the nose on Elmo. I just freehand made this from red and orange poster board. I painted the eyes and mouth on with acrylic paint.

The cupcakes- Elmo and Cookie Monster
For these I found inspiration from Karas Cupcakes and flickr.

For Cookie Monster I used a grass tip for the fur. White candy melts for the eyes and Chips Ahoy cookies for the mouth.

For Elmo- I also used the grass tip for the fur, white candy melts for the eyes, oreos for the mouth, and a orange gumball for his nose.

The buffet- all finger foods. If you would like the recipe for any of these, leave me a comment! This is what I served.

-Chicken salad sandwiches
-Corn, avocado, tomato, and bean salad (chunky dip) with tortilla chips
-vegetable platter with dip
-cookies (in a cookie jar)
-cupcakes
-my MIL's reception drink which is just white grape juice and sprite. I added slices of lemon

And for the kiddos I had these sesame street juice boxes. I bought these from Sam's Club. $10 for a box of 40. They came in Elmo, Big Bird and Bert and Ernie.

For another games I had two bowls out. One with 'Dorothy' which were goldfish crackers.
The other was filled with pasta for 'Mr. Noodle'. Everyone had to guess the number in each.
I gave candy treats for prizes.

I also made these Elmo chocolate suckers for the kids to take home in their goodie bags. I bought the mold from Ebay for 3 bucks (they have multiple character for sale from Sesame Street). I used a pot, foam, and silver confetti and used this for the center of the kids table.

I came across this idea and tutorial this morning and fell in love. I plan on doing this soon, and I'm trying to decide where I want to put it. I'm thinking I might make two smaller versions of this and put one in each of the little ones rooms. But I think it would look fantastic in a mudroom!

Got a 2x4 that is just laying in your garage and don't know what to do with it??? Left over from finishing your basement or shelves in the garage? Here is a quick easy idea

Cut it down to the size you want and paint it. Distress it to you likings.
Add some hooks. I found mine at an antique store in town. Hang it up and wala.... No more coats on the floor. Love the rustic thick chunky look.

I love this in my boys room.

I finished my little guys Happy Birthday banner last night. It turned out really cute! I followed this tutorial. (I used the 'Party Time' glitter paper pack by My minds eye) The great thing about this 'birthday' paper pack is that it comes in boy themed and girl themed. Edible Paints

This is a fun little project to do with your kids. Especially the really little ones. Its edible, so if they stick the brush in their mouth or lick their fingers, who cares! Its always a hit at my house! Have fun!

Prepare the instant vanilla pudding as directed on the package. Separate into bowls.

Mix in food coloring.

And that's it! Now let them create!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

I have tried a few different pumpkin cookie recipes. With them all disappointing me. I made this recipe a few days ago and when I couldn't stop eating them and my husband said to me, "This may possibly be the best pumpkin chocolate chip cookie I have ever had", I knew I hit the jackpot. And I knew I had to share.

**Make sure you use a timer and make sure they only cook for 10 minutes!**

1 cup canned pumpkin
1 cup white sugar

1/2 cup vegetable oil ( I use canola)
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Combine pumpkin, sugar, oil, and egg. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Dissolve the baking soda with the milk and stir into pumpkin mixture. Add flour mixture to pumpkin mixture and mix well.

Add vanilla and chocolate chips. Mix well.

Drop by spoonful on greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 10 minutes. Enjoy!

Infant Flower Halloween Costume

Halloween is right around the corner and I wanted to do something fun and inexpensive for my newborn daughter. Her older brother is going to be a bee, so how cute would it be for her to be a flower? I thought is was a little silly to buy a costume, shes only a month old, cmon. I remembered that my son had this green jumpsuit in a box in the basement. She already had the brown crocheted beanie (which was a gift). I bought some green felt for leaves and a flower. Ta-da!

To top off the costume I am going to stick her in a pot (padded of course) Easy peasy...

What you will need:

green outfit (sweatsuit, dress, or shirt)
1/8 yard green felt- found at any fabric store. I bought mine from Hobby Lobby.
petal pattern (below)
Flower- I love the flowers at Hobby Lobby. That is where I bought this one. Never pay full price, wait till they are 50% off!
brown beanie or hat
alligator clip
ribbon
hot glue
matching thread

The flower cost me $3 and the felt was .60 cents! If you have everything else already, thats a cheap costume! Have fun!

Click on the petal pattern and print. I downsized it to about 30% , so just play around with it until it is the size you like.

Using the petal pattern, cut out as many leaves as you like. I wanted 8 leaves, so I cut 16. I doubled them up. Then sew the leaves together. I used white thread to give the illusion of 'veins' in the leaves.

Sew the leaves onto the jacket. I overlapped my leaves for a layered look. You could also buy some bias tape or thick pretty ribbon and just make a separate 'collar' if you didn't want to sew right onto the clothing.

Hot glue some ribbon to the alligator clip. Then hot glue onto the flower.

Clip onto the brown beanie or hat.

...and just for fun I found some matching ribbon and attached them to the pants.

And then last night i whipped out these pillow cases. My color scheme is brown, red, powder blue and white. Sounds kind of crazy but I can't wait to show it to you once it is put together. I will be posting a project a day until we get to the finished project!! Let me know what you think.

Scrappy Camera Strap

I came across this tutorial some time ago. Ive always wanted to make my camera a custom strap. Ive seen them before and I think they are darling. The best part is you can just dig into your stash of scrap fabric, which I need to start doing something with! Perfect project. This took me about 20 minutes. Now, your shootin' in style!

A long time ago I found some really cute material that I really loved. Made some really cute pillows and layered them around my house. Well today as I was "tiddying up" after my kids I looked at them and thought man they just look messy, and not to mention the kids think they are toys just lying next to the armoire. But what could I do with them? Throw them away?

So i looked in my craft closet to see if there was anything that could help these pillow of mine.

I saw my raffia. hmmm i thought. Raffia is cute.

And this is what i came up with. A new decoration that cost me nothing. Perfect!!

A tip for picky eaters.

My nineteen month old son has hit the dreaded stage of the "picky eater". Won't eat on schedule, textures are a huge dilemma and heaven forbid any vegetable or fruits???? So i was told this amazing tip. (kudos to my neighbor Crystal)

After talking to her pediatrician about her son's pickiness, her doc recommended that he get on pediasure to make up for the vitamins and essentials that he was missing out on. Well people have you looked at the price for that stuff. Good heavenly day!! So she decided to give him the same thing her older daughter takes on those "running a little late this morning"

Carnation Instant Breakfast.

She mentioned this to me and gave me a couple of packets to try. And seriously people he is full and happy and walla breakfast is taken care of.

I give him half a packet with milk in a sippy cup each morning. The sugar amount is a concern where pediasure is calculated for toddlers and infants so you know the sugar amount is good. But it only has 20 grams a packet and if you give half then he is only getting 10 grams each morning. You get more grams in syrup that you put on your Eggo's!

The best part????? At Costco they have a box for $8.99. There is 30 in a box and where you are only using half a day that makes 60 meals. They will last you two months making it $4.50 a month for a healthy breakfast that you know will benefit you picky bugger!!! Win Win! yea

Frame Art

I was inspired by this idea from a cute cupcake cafe I visited down south. The minute I saw it I knew I wanted to do this for my little girls room. Visit your local DI or thrift shop and buy some frames. Different shapes and sizes. I then purchased some black semi-gloss spray paint and painted them all black.

The beauty about this project is you can make it as big as you like (with more frames) and you can paint them any color you want! Another idea, print out a vinyl initial and place it in the middle frame. (its on my to-do list!) This project cost me under $10 and It will add a big punch to whatever room you put it in!

Caramel Apples

Caramel apples are one of my favorite Fall treats to make. I thought I would make some for my neighbor tonight, what a perfect gift! I made four apples (one for each family member) and dipped them in store bought caramels. I then dipped one of each into Oreos, chocolate chips, Fall colored sprinkles, and I left one 'naked'. I whipped up a cute tag using Stampin' Up! 'Lovely Labels'.

A perfect treat for a good neighbor! Enjoy!

Fall Owl Buddy

So on a search for some much needed fall decor, that i could whip up on my own and cost little to nothing. I found a little owl on Nanny Goat, And instantly it was love at first sight. I imagined her sitting on my bench on my front porch. So the creation began.

I followed her directions and I am tickled with the results.

First I found this ugly tea towel that i bought at a garage sale. Perfect!!!

I cut a square rounded the edges and gave her some ears. I also found some extra fabric that was orange polka dot and sewed it to the tea towel. I used some felt for the eyes. You may wonder why my eyes aren't symmetrical. I wanted my owl to be a little unique, and not perfect.

I sewed on some buttons that i had in my stash, for eyes.

Then found some ribbon that coordinated and pinned them on as her feet.

Then i sewed the right sides together leaving an opening at the bottom

and turned her inside out.

Added a little stuffing and wahla!! I love her. I love how she is a little quirky and my own.

Make one to add to your fall decor collection.
